This is the "old post office" located at the intersection of Hoopers Neck Road & Bayshore Road. It replaced the previous post office that was located in the Harrington General Store -- which became the Island Grille. Paul Mace, Sr. was the Postmaster while it was at the General Store. When he retired, Patsy Carpenter became Postmistress, and her husband, Reynolds Carpenter built the little "old" post office sometime in the 1960s. Years later, the current post office was built on the mound that was created from dredging material that was pumped there. Where the current post office is located was the site of the Harrington house. Behind that was the tomato processing factory owned by the Harringtons. Taylors Island farmers raised many acres of tomatoes in those days -- nearly enough to supply the canning factory.
