The Slaughter Creek Marina (on right side of Route 16 before the bridge to the island) once was the location of a Coast Guard Station for the mid-Chesapeake area for many years. The station has since moved to Oxford, Maryland. The station was situated on a house boat and the crew resided on the boat. It is said that the house boat could be seen in the opening credits of the 1960s TV show "SurfsideSix", and was where the bachelors in the show lived. The show was filmed in Miami. The house boat served the island as floating dock bar until early February 2022 when it sank. The floating dock bar was known by different names including for a long period the fitting title of "Boondocks". Donna Brado's father served on the station and retired in 1974. Below is a photo that Ms. Brado shared on the Taylors Island Facebook Page in 2019:
"My family and I were blessed to be part of the Taylors Island Community for several years in the mid-70's. It was my dad's last duty station for the USCG before his retirement in 1974. Now age 87 he (and all of us) still talk about the wonderful times there. Here's a Polaroid (remember those) of the houseboat that served as the USCG Station Taylors Island taken as we left it it for the last time."
